Glee: Special Education

Last night on Glee, Ryan Murphy has finally began storylines that viewers can actually get interested in!  Warning: Spoiler alert –

Following Kurt’s departure from McKinley, New Directions goes off into Sectionals and judging by the promos they will be covering no other than Florence and the Machine’s breakout hit, ‘Dog Days Are Over’.  We should also see the Hipsters for the first time and the Dalton Warblers with Kurt perform Train’s ‘Hey Soul Sister’.  Looks like it’s going to be one exciting episode!

Darren Criss to be on GLEE!

Glee, oh how I hate thee…

Judging by the premiere episode for Season 2, all it seems to look forward to this season is the Regionals (which New Directions will DEFINITELY get in – there has to be some story right?), the themed episodes (excited for next episode!) and finally the guest stars.

And yes there ARE stars.

Firstly, I’d like to apologize for the ample posts on GLEE, but these days, the casting announcements ARE breaking news.  Yes, you read the title correctly, Darren Criss aka Harry Potter of Youtube sensation ‘A Very Potter Musical’ and it’s sequel ‘A Very Potter Sequel’ is to star on GLEE! (sitting front row in picture above)

Once you’ve recovered from your blackout, it gets even better.  Previously I imagined that Chord Overstreet, better known as the guy who sung Billionaire with the tennis ball mouth on the premiere episode seemed to be the likely candidate for Kurt Hummel’s much anticipated boyfriend.  However, according to reports, Darren Criss is to play such a character (pause for effect).

Indeed, Criss will play Blaine, a gay student from a rival glee club (thankfully not Vocal Adrenaline) named the Dalton Academy Warblers, and will become a love interest for Kurt.  Although I would’ve liked Criss to play a love interest to Quinn Fabray, his appearance in GLEE is enough to renew my interest in the second season, which seems to be focused solely on getting famous people to just walk on.  Although Criss could be considered a celebrity to Potter fans, in actual fact he is not.  Wikipedia-ing him will get you nowhere and the only mention of him is his short-lived role on the even shorter lived Eastwick and his fanpages from Potter fanatics.

Here’s hoping this news isn’ t just a rumour, because this role could finally get Criss the recognition he deserves.  Frankly though I think the entire Potter Musical cast deserves their own show, Criss’ involvement in a major Hollywood show is a good start.  He practically wrote all the music for the Youtube musicals and has a great voice, so we’ll have to wait and see if his role on GLEE will get him an even larger fanbase as it did for Jonathan Groff as Jesse St. James.

For those of you in the dark on who Darren Criss actually is, here’s the musicals which has made him famous on the interweb.  It’s perfomed by Team Starkid, students at the University of Michigan.  The first video is the original musical while the second is it’s recent sequel.  Prepare to lose a couple of days 🙂

EMMYS Opening & Winners

So I wasn’t allowed to stay up past 4AM -.-

Luckily though, I forced my parents to let me watch the opening number.  And all I can say is: WOW! 😀  I literally beamed when the show started and ROFLed to my hearts content.  Jimmy Fallon was a great host and the Glee inspired opening really got everything started.  And I can’t seem to stop myself from falling for Chris Colfer, it’s too bad he’s gay, he just oozes charisma and he looks amazing.

The random bunch who performed ‘Born to Run’ by Bruce Springsteen was also genious: Glee Cast members (Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, Lea Michelle, Cory Monteith, the great Jane Lynch), Tina Fey, Jon Hamm, Hurley from Lost, Joel McHale and Nina Dobrev (her appearance was a little surprising seeing how The Vampire Diaries wasn’t nominated for ANYTHING, but i guess she’s just that popular :P).  The random cameos by Kate Gosselin, Tim Gunn and Randy Jackson on bass tied everything together, but according to most reviews that seemed to be the highlight of the show which is disappointing seeing as how for every award show, the opening is the only thing that I seem to love.  That and the red carpet.

Here’s the opening, prepare to smile like crazy :):
